THE NUMBERING SYSTEM
The numbers beside the names identify the individuals in the order of their births as best it could be determined. For instance:
1 John May Jr. (died ca. 1760) was probably given the number one (1) because no brothers or sisters could be found.
14 Stephen May (b. 15 Nov 1745) is the fourth child of JOHN MAY Jr. (d. c.1760).
141 John Wray May (b. c. 1773) is the first child of STEPHEN MAY (b. 15 Nov 1745).
1411 William May Sr. (b. 15 Sep 1796) is the first child of JOHN WRAY MAY (b. c.1773).
14116 Robert Granville May (b. 10 Dec 1828) is the 6th born to WILLIAM MAY SR. (b. 15 Sep 1796).
141166 George Washington May (b. 28 June 1866) is the 6th born of ROBERT GRANVILLE MAY (b. 10 Dec 1828).
1411669 Herbert Leslie May (b. 26 July 1909) was the 9th born of GEORGE WASHINGTON MAY (b. 28 June 1866).
14116692 Donald Lee May (b. 23 Oct 1931) was the 2nd born of HERBERT LESLIE MAY (b. 26 July 1909)
141166922 Donald Scot May (b. d. 21 Jul 2015) was the 2nd born of Donald Lee May (b. 23 Oct 1931 d. 6 May 1991)
1411669221 Andrew Scot May Sr. (b. d.) Only child of Donald Scot May and Jackie Swiger.
14116692211 Andrew Scot May Jr. (b. 20 Jul 2007 d.) Only child of Andrew Scot May Sr. and Michelle Baldwin.
Each individual number, in the identification number, denotes the order to the father. Even if the father remarries, the birth numbers will to continue to increment with his consecutive wife/wives as it would if he kept having children with his first wife. When the number of births exceed nine, the next birth in line is identified by using the ABC’s. For instance, if your older brother (14119) was the ninth child born in your family, and you were next in line, your number would be (1411A) denoting number 10. The next born would be (1411B) denoting number 11, and so on.
*Due to new research, some of the birthdates are out of order. To match the numbering system of Ben Coke, we have merely added new discoveries at the end.
