Generation One
1 JOHN MAY Jr. died c.1760, but the exact date of his death is not known. He is probably the son of John May who bought land in Prince George County (now Dinwiddie County), Virginia in 1723. John May Jr. (c.1760) served as clerk of the vestry of Bristol Parish, Virginia (Episcopal) 17401743. He was still living in Dinwiddie County in 1757. John May Jr. (c.1760) and Agnes Smith married in the late 1730s or 1740’s. There is much speculation on the father of this John May Jr. As of this printing, I have no concrete proof of his parentage.
1(w) AGNES SMITH (b. 9 Apr 1722 d.c.1806) was born in Bristol Parish, Virginia and her will is recorded in Campbell County, Virginia. She is the daughter of Richard Smith and Agnes Cocke. (See Richard Smith’s will in Lunenburg County, Virginia Will Book 1 page 286.) John May Jr. (c.1760) and Agnes Smith had nine children.
Generation Two
Issue of 1 John May Jr. and Agnes Smith
11 Betty May (b. 16 Nov 1740 – d. 1785) was born in Bristol Parish, Virginia but nothing further is known about her. She is not mentioned in the land records. She was living in Halifax Co. Virginia at the time of her death. Her brother John May (d. 1790) does not mention her in his will, but does name all his other brothers and sisters then living (1790). She therefore probably died prior to 1790 without issue.
12 Richard May (b. 20 Dec 1742 d. 30 Jun 1786)
13 John May (b. 20 Dec 1744 d. Mar 1790) BPAR says he was born 1737.
14 Stephen May (b. 15 Nov 1745 ) Born in Bristol Parish, Virginia. Moved to Kentucky in 1790’s and was still living in Nelson County, Kentucky in 1822. Married Martha ? Note: This list of children for Stephen May (b. 1745) may not be complete.
15 David May (b. 15 May 1747 or 1749 d. 1797) Baptized 1749.
16 Agnes May (b. 6 Sep 1749 d. ?)
17 William May (Rev) (b. Oct 1752 d. c.1825)
18 George May (b. 6 Feb. 1756 d. 26 Apr 1822)
19 Lucy May, probably the youngest of the nine children.
Generation Three
Issue of 14 Stephen May and Martha ?
This list of children for Stephen May (b. 1745) may not be complete.
141 John Wray May (b. c.1773 d. 2 Jan 1857) HWMB says born 1772. Born in Lunenburg County or in Botetourt County Virginia; came to Nelson County, Kentucky from Botetourt County, Virginia in 1790’s. He attempted to operate a spa in Nelson County but was probably wiped out in the financial crisis in 1818. Moved to Daviess County, Kentucky c.1820 where he once kept a tavern. (See DAVK pp 620621,745746)
Married in Nelson County, Kentucky 1795 to SARAH WATERS (b. c.1778 d. 22 Aug 1841). She was the daughter of Josephus Waters and Margaret Lansdale. John Wray May and wife are buried in family cemetery just east of Ensor, Daviess County, Kentucky.
142 Smith May (d. c.1849)
143 Martha (Patsy) May (b. c.1779 d. 1853)
144 Stephen May (b. c.1783 d. 26 Apr 1837)

Additional information on 1411 and his children
1411 William May Sr. (b. 15 Sept, 1796 d. 14 Aug 1876) [Ansley’s DOD = 30 Aug 1876] Born in Nelson County, Kentucky; died Hammond Twp., Spencer County, Indiana. Moved to Daviess County, Kentucky c.1819. Not successful as merchant in Owensboro, he moved to Spencer County, Indiana. Before 1843 where he was a farmer and a sometime lawyer; he lived near Greenbush Township, Warren County, Illinois for several years, then came back to Spencer County, Indiana. Married 30 Mar 1818 in Nelson County, Kentucky to Maria Vance Wilson, daughter of Robert Wilson of Logan County, Kentucky and sister to Robert Newton Wilson. William is buried in Fairview Cemetery, Spencer County Indiana north of Grandview, Indiana. PSWI says he had 18 children.
There is a, Q. A. May Co. H 83rd Illinois infantry”, headstone next to William May Sr.’s headstone (d. 28 Aug 1876) in Fairview Cemetery. I (D.L. May) checked with the Illinois State Archives and they sent me a copy of enlistees which contains a Quincy May (aged 18) enlisted for service 6 Aug 1862 – mustered in 21 Aug 1862 at Greenbush Township, Warren County, Illinois. Discharged 8 May 1865 at Clarksville, Tennessee. Nativity Spencer County, Indiana (no city mentioned.) If he was 18 in 1862 be would have been born in 1844. He may be a son of William May Sr. He appears also in Warren County (Illinois) War Record page 185.
At this point, 1411 William May Sr., in Ben Coke’s book and Ansley I. May’s research overlap. They disagree by 16 days on the date of death of (1411) but I’m convinced this is an irrefutable connection of these two genealogist’s research. I have combined information of both in this paper. 1411 William May Sr. (b. Sep 1796 d. Aug 1876) is also where Ben Coke’s research stops in this lineage. From this point on the compiler of this paper, Donald L. May (b. 23 October 1931 d. 8 May 1992), has copied the research of Ansley Irwin May (b. 20 Oct 1894 d. ca. 1967) and converted Ansley’s alpha numeric system to Mr. Coke’s numeric system.
Ben H. Coke’s letter to Donald L. May (b. 23 Oct 1931 d. 8 May, 1992) dated 14 Sep 1986 refers to his notes from CEMETERY INSCRIPTIONS OF SPENCER COUNTY, INDIANA by Christine Young below:
Vol. 13 P 48 Fairview Cemetery Sect 19 Range SW Twp 6S
“May, Wm Sr. d. 28 Aug 1876 aged 79Y 9M 11D” (Ben Coke said later that the years, months and days was typed from memory. The exact numbers appear on the photo of the headstone, elsewhere in this genealogy). In late November or early December 1990 Jerry C. Taylor, son of Eloise (May) Taylor, went to Fairview Cemetery, approximately 3 miles south of Indiana Rt. 70 past the Highland Cemetery, and took photos of the headstone, “William May Sr. died 28 Aug 18?6 Aged 79 yrs. 11 Mos. 18 Days”. The question mark in the year he died could be a 2 or a 7.
(The death date, (d. 28 Aug 1876), on the tombstone calculates out to a birth date of September 17, 1796.
Listed below is the issue of William May and Maria Vance Wilson as listed in “John May Jr. His Descendants and Their Land” by Ben Coke.
14111 Sarah Waters May ( b. 6 Sep 1821 d. ?)
14112 Sabina Rebecca May (b. 17 Apr 1824 d. ?)
14113 William T May (9 Apr – 1831)
14114 Vance Wilson May
14115 John Rowen May (b. 19 May 1926 d. ?)
14116 Robert May
14117 Wilson L May
Some of Wm. Sr.’s (1411) issue comes from “John May Jr.”, the May Family Bible Dated 1855 and some from Ansley Irwin May’s research. They would probably be born in the order as listed below. I placed Wilson L. May (no birth date) in the 8th place because his first name appears in the next two born, Edwin Wilson May and Vance Wilson May.
Because Ansley brought new members into William May’s issue, nearly all the numbers, established in Ben Cokes book, had to be changed to match the, now known, birth dates of nearly all of William’s children. The new version is listed below with the old version above in case anyone wants to look up a person from this paper in the “John May Jr.” book.

In the 1860 census of Greenbush Township, Warren County, IL, Quincy (aged 16) bpl IN and Mary (aged 17) bpl IN appear but Clinton is missing. Sometime between 1862 and 1870 Wm. May b. 1796 wife Susan and family returned to Spencer County, IN. Quincy enlisted in the Army in 1862 and appears with the family in the 1870 census of Hammond Township, Spencer County, Indiana. May] have photographs of both headstones and a copy of the Civil War record from The Illinois State Archives Springfield, Ill. 67256.)
William May Sr. (1411) and Susan Jack had returned to Spencer County by 1870 as proven by the census.
14116 Robert Granville May Sr. (b. 10 Dec 1828 d. 4 Jan 1867). [Underground railway]. Married 18 Aug 1855 Rebecca S. Hammond (b. 17 Jul 1835 d. 1 Aug 1887). Robert, Rebecca and Emma may all be buried in Hitchcock Cemetery apx. 1 mile east of Grandview, IN in Spencer County. 141161 Emma May (b. 3 Sep 1856 d. 19 Sep 1856). Was buried at Hammond, also known as, Hitchcock graveyard about 2 miles northeast of Grandview, in Spencer County Indiana. A large stone, about 100 feet south of the concrete highway and on the west side of the cemetery, marks the graves of the May’s. Emma’s marker is south of the large stone.
Ansley’s note: There seems to be some question as to the authenticity of the statement that Emma’s grave was at the Hammond Cemetery, since there is also a small white stone marker bearing the inscription “Emma” daughter of Robert G. May & Rebecca S. Hammond May (b. 3 Sep 1856)” in the May lot at Fairview Church Cemetery, which is located about a half mile south of the Highland M. E. Church. The May lot is about 50 ft. south of the southeast corner of the church.

Glenna Jean and her mother moved to Detroit, MI after her parents were divorced in 1939. She met and married Claude in his hometown. He joined the Army Air Corps (later the U.S. Air Force), received pilot training (Class of 44F). Served as a bomber pilot (B24) in the BurmaChinaIndia Theater. He was discharged in 1945. Worked in heavy construction for a short time but he missed flying and Glenna enjoyed the excitement of new experiences, moving about the country, so she encouraged him to go back into the Air Force. He continued to fly, progressing into jet aircraft and flew missions for 11 months in Vietnam in 1968. They were with the air force for 32 years and lived in Michigan, Illinois, Germany, Pakistan, Hawaii and Oklahoma. They lived in some of the southern states for short periods during training. Their children graduated from high school in O’Fallon, IL and both went to the University of Illinois, Champagne/Urbana, Illinois. The children were in college while their parents were assigned to Pakistan so, during their summer vacation, the children were able to visit their parents and see Pakistan at the same time. After retirement, in 1973, the Birds decided to settle in San Diego, near their son Ron, and because of it’s perfect weather. The first few months of retirement seemed too quiet so Claude took a job in Iran. After 18 months they returned to San Diego and have been happily settled ever since. They have given up all their hobbies and are now into pursuing genealogy on both sides of their family, namely Bird and May. Glenna and Claude had:

1411664 Mary Ethyl May (b. 19 Feb 1892 d. 18 Nov 1944)
At this point in this paper, Ansley Irwin May’s research of his father, George Washington May stops. The remainder of George Washington May’s family was compiled, by Donald Lee May, through personal interviews and letters from the Aunts, Uncles and Cousins of Donald L. May (b. Oct 23, 1931 d. 8 May 1992 ).
I (D. L. May) am convinced that the census record shown below is this William Davis May for several reasons.
- Ansley stated in his research, “Wm. D. May married 12 Oct 1889 Iola Carpenter.” (Probably obtained from family records.)
- A marriage is recorded in the WPA Index to Marriages in Spencer County, Indiana 1850-1920 page 49, “May, William D. – Mary I(ola) Carpenter – Oct 12, 1889.”
- In the census below it mentions they had four children but only three are listed. In Ansley’s research he listed Guy Wilson May (b. Aug 30, 1890 d. Oct 19, 1890) as one of William Davis’ children who had died at 1 month & 19 days of age.
- The marriage date listed in the WPA Index of Marriages matched Ansley’s listed marriage date exactly. There is one problem and that is the date of death. I hope to settle that soon. 5/4/1991 D.L. May)

Ansley married (2nd) 7 Jun 1930 Nancy Georgina Richman (b. d. )
Nancy Georgina was the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. George J. Richman of Kempton, Indiana. Georgina was also known as “Georgene”. Georgene/ina has a sister, living in Indianapolis, IN in June of 1989, named Lucille. Lucille was in her 80’s in 1989 and still quite active. Ansley was born near Grandview, Indiana, taught school at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana and later received his A.B. Degree from Indiana University. One of Ansley’s early achievements was the design and development of the Ross magnet in 1930. The most powerful magnet of it’s day. Another project Ansley worked on with David E. Georgianne left everything to her maiden aunt, Lucille Richman of Greenville, IN.
I (D.L. May) feel that a lot of her father’s genealogical research was thrown away after Georgianne’s death. Ansley mentions two picture albums that were given him by 123544 [I.D. number in Gudgen genealogy] Mary Brunette Gudgen (b. April ?, 1868 d. 23 Feb 1950) Married Robert Granville May Jr.

Roy Lee Huser Jr. joined the Army and became a fighter pilot in World War II. He was killed in action while based somewhere in North Africa. Roy Lee and other members of his squadron were returning to base when they were attacked and his buddies saw his plane go down into the Mediterranean Sea. It was reported that no life raft was visible so it was assumed that Roy Lee was dead or wounded so badly that he was unable to get out of his plane. His plane was a P-40 Tomahawk a single seat fighter. His body was never recovered. There were no children born of this union. Elizabeth (O’Bryan) Huser remarried a “Harkins” and still lives in Lincoln, Il. Elizabeth (O’Bryan) (Huser) Harkins lives in Lincoln, Il. and is currently working on the Huser genealogy. 1411668 Robert May (b. 17 Dec 1904)
1411669 Herbert Leslie May Sr. (b. 26 Jul 1909 d. 31 Mar 1982). Herbert was born near Grandview, Indiana. Herbert Sr.’s work with Lippencott’s Canning Co. took him to Chrisney, Indiana, Booneville, Indiana, and Napoleon, Oh. In 1940 Herbert could see that America would soon be at war in Europe so he moved to New Albany, Indiana to work for E. I. DuPont making smokeless gunpowder. DuPont transferred him to Tulsa, Ok., Pryor Ok., Richland, WA. and back to Pryor, Ok. In 1945 Herbert could see the war was grinding down and there would no longer be a need for all that gunpowder so he contacted a friend in Terre Haute, Indiana that had remained in the canning business, was offered a job, and moved his family to Terre Haute to work for the Standard Brands Co. (later bought by Campbell Soup Co). Campbell Soup transferred Herbert to LaGrange, Il., Elmhurst, Il., Villa Park, Il., Mexico City, Mex, Howe, Indiana, Holland, Mi., Omaha, Ne., Bloomsburg Pa., and then to Richmond Utah where he died of a stroke and heart trouble.
Herbert and his family lived in Richland WA. in 1944. Richland had the usual structures such as a general store, tavern, blacksmith, a few old houses that had seen better days, and a population of less than 100 people. Herbert had to precede his family to Richland because, at that time, Richland was just a very small desert western town. There was no housing available for dependents so housing had to be built before families. I heard the figure of 4000 homes were built to accommodate the families. This necessitated the construction of schools, groceries, drugstores and even a movie theater. In those days it wasn’t hard to determine what theater to go to since there was just one to choose from. The workers were bussed, every day, to work at Hanford, Washington. They were not allowed to drive their own cars. Herbert didn’t know what DuPont’s was making but he told his family it was the biggest thing ever made. He later learned it was the World’s First Atomic Bomb. It wasn’t until the fall of 1989 that this writer (Donald Lee May 14116692) learned just what was going on during WW II at Hanford, Washington.
I (D.L. May) ran across an article in the October 1989 issue of The Smithsonian Magazine. The article was titled “The Hanford Reservation”. It said, “the reservation was established as a top-secret location during WW II to produce weapons material for “The Manhattan Project.” It was here on this sagebrush desert reservation, half the size of Rhode Island, that the first significant amounts of plutonium were made including the plutonium used for the bomb drop on Nagasaki, Japan.”
Herbert married (Dec 1929) (1st) Thelma Louise Ryan (b. 21 Jun 1908 d. 17 Aug 1960). Thelma was born in Oklahoma to Albert J. Ryan (b. 23 Jun 1886 d. 20 Feb) and Ada Clark (d. c.1914). Thelma had a brother Virgil and three halfsiblings; Lillian Catherine Ryan, William Ryan, and Ollie Grey Ryan. Thelma and Virgil’s mother, Ada Clark, died when Thelma was about six years old. Her father then married Virgia Jeffries from Spencer County, Indiana. Thelma was a housewife and mother to her husband and three children. Thelma who suffered with Limb Girdle Muscular Dystrophy, Type 1D, died in Villa Park, Il. in 1960, aged 52. Thelma was buried 20 Aug 1960 in Chapel Hill Gardens West Cemetery (3129415860) in the Garden of Victory; Lot 181D Gr. 12 on Roosevelt Road at Route 83 in Elmhurst, Il. 60126. About 15 miles west of the “Loop” from downtown Chicago.

They went to the Caribbean Sea each year on simulated amphibious landings off the island of Vieges, just east of Puerto Rico. He started his career as a Boatswain’s Mate but most of his tour of duty was as an electronics technician. The Korean war was going on but he was never in a combat zone. After the Navy, Donald was employed with American Telephone and Telegraph Co. from 6 Dec 1954 until July 1974. Donald was relocated to Indianapolis IN and was transferred to Terre Haute in 1955 where he retired and lived until his death. Limb Girdle Muscular Dystrophy Type 1D was the reason for his early retirement. Donald became active with radio-controlled airplanes and prepared the monthly newsletter for the club for several years. He also helped the local Hospice with their mailings. He became interested in computers and decided to continue his uncle’s work (Ansley 1411668) on the family genealogy. Although he was not a genealogist, he studied the work Ben Coke had done on the May family and patterned his work after Coke’s. He corresponded with the author, Ben Coke, and was able to add significant material to the family history. His Terre Haute address, for 25 years, was 201 Madison Blvd. Terre Haute, Indiana 47803, a home that his parents had rented previously. His wife, M. Sue May lived at 201 Madison until 1996, when she sold the home and relocated to 344 S 32nd Street. “Robert W. May, the present County Recorder, is a native of Spencer County. Born near Grandview, Indiana November 2nd, 1861. He was reared on the farm where his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Todd, yet reside. The only son of five children, he assisted his father on the farm until of age. Having received as good an education as his opportunities afforded, he became a teacher in 1880 and entered upon the work with such zeal as to quickly place him in high rank in the profession. In 1889 he purchased an interest in the drug business at Chrisney, Indiana, continuing until elected County Recorder in November, 1892. The contest of that year was exceedingly close, but Mr. May was elected by a good majority. In 1894 he, in connection with ex-auditor Kellams, purchased The Rockport Democrat. Through their exertions the Democrat was much improved in typography and matter and they realized their hope in making it one of the most attractive county papers in Southern Indiana. He was married October 9, 1889 to Miss Rosa Belle Masterson and is the father of one child. Politically Mr. May is a Democrat and a member of The Masonic and Pythian Orders, holding high rank in each.
Robert W. May and Rosa Belle Masterson had:

Jerry C. Taylor, son of Eloise (May) Taylor took photos of Edwin, Susannah and Hattie’s tombstones in late 1990. The photos are in the possession of Linda L. May (1998).
NOTE: Ben H. Coke’s letter to Donald L. May (b. 23 Oct 1931) dated 14 Sep 1986 refers to his notes from CEMETERY INSCRIPTIONS OF SPENCER COUNTY, INDIANA by Christine Young: Vol 2 Hitchcock Cemetery east of Grandview (IN)
“Edwin W. May 1 Feb 1834 25 Jan 1890″{l double stone “Susanna wife E. W. 1845 22 Aug 1873″{l ” ”
“May, Hattie Newell wife of Edwin May dau of John M & Margaret Woodward” Ben Coke says that Susanna and Hattie appear to be wives of Edwin W. May.
1411A Vance Wilson May (b. 10 May 1836 d. 4 Feb 1895). Born in Daviess Co., Kentucky. Died In Lawrence, Kansas. A medical doctor and lived near Greenbush Township, Warren County, Ill. and Lawrence Kansas. Vance Wilson May married 10 May 1864 (1st) Susan Miller (b. 1840 d. 1865) by Andrew W. 1411A2 James Vance May (b. 6 Jul 1873 d. 24 Dec 1947)
(Ansley inserted “at Lawrence, Kansas M.D. 1897” in this spot. Reason unknown. Perhaps he was stating he was born and attained the medical degree here (D.L. May). James Vance lived in Philadelphia, Pa. & Boston, Mass. Was internationally known in the field of mental diseases; president of American Psychiatric Association of Mass. Psychiatric Soc of NE Soc of psychiatry; see his entry in WWW. Married 22 Jun 1905 Ada L. Arms (b. 21 Mar 1881 in Binghamton, N.Y.)
James Vance May corresponded with Ansley Irwin May for years trying to put the May Family lineage together. Copies of some of these letters are in my possession (Donald L. May). In one letter, dated 26 Aug 1946, James Vance May refers to daguerreotype picture of his father 1411A Vance Wilson May, being in perfect condition.
In another letter, dated 10 Mar 1945, James Vance makes reference to the “Mease” family of Jamestown. He says, “While no connection can be traced with the Maese Family of Jamestown I believe that this is where the William May of our family came from.” James goes on to say, ” I believe this is a problem you should tackle after you find out about the father of Wm May 1796.” James continues, “The May family was all over Kentucky and they certainly came there from Virginia. Mayfield Kentucky was named after John May who came from Virginia.” There is a picture of a memorial plaque to John May and Maysville in “John May Jr.” on page 344.
James Vance May had a soninlaw named C. H. Haines. Mr. Haines wrote to Ansley May to tell him that James had died 24 Feb 1947. Haines’ letter was dated 16 Aug 1949 and was written on the same paper that James Vance used with his address at the top of the page. The address was: 136 Goden St. Belmont, Mass.
1411A21 Dorothy Louise May (b. 26 Apr 1906). Born in Binghampton, N.Y. Married Clarence H. Haines 1 Sep 1928 at Boston, Mass.
1411A22 James Vance May Jr. (b. 3 Dec 1912). Born in Albany N.Y. Once lived in Belmont, Mass.
1411 Wm. May Sr. married (2nd) 16 May 1839 Susan E. Jack.
William May Sr. (b. 15 Sep 1796 d. 14 Aug 1876) married 16 May 1839 Susan E. Jack (b. 1810). Susan was probably illiterate because when she applied for her son’s, Quincy A. May, military pension, in the war of 1861, provided by Acts of Congress she made her mark, an X, and was witnessed by J. D. Armstrong and John Chewning. Armstrong and Chewning were probably literate friends that accompanied Susan when this letter was placed before the signatory J. C. Richardson, Clerk of Spencer County Circuit Court. Susan also stated in the letter that she was the widow of William May who died 30 Aug 1876 and was unable to support her during the last years of his life due to old age and poor health. This left them destitute and she was dependent on the son, Quincy A. May, for support. William and Susan had:
1411B Joseph Harrison May (b. 18 Jun 1841 d. 24 May 1903)
Born in Daviess County, Kentucky. Lived for awhile in Spencer County, IN and died and is buried “Bond” Cemetery in Greenbush Township, Warren County, IL. Headstone reads, “MAY, Joseph Harrison 1841 – 1903.” Married 29 Aug 1875 Sabina Wilson Gore (b. 11 Aug 1850 d. 29 Nov 1877). The 1880 Spencer County, Indiana Federal Census page 139 lists, living household OBa-105, May, Susan (aged 70) “head”, Joseph H. (aged 36) “son”, Thomas (aged 4) “grandson” and Robert (aged 3) “grandson.” These grandchildren are probably Joseph’s sons but there is no confirmation of that.
1411C Quincy A. May (b. c.1844 d. 18 May 1875). The birth date was calculated from his enlistment, as a private, in the Army 6 Aug 1862 aged 18. His war records show that he was present at musters and was honorably discharged 8 May 1865. In his Declaration for Invalid Army Pension it states, “from exposure incident to camp life and field duty, contracted general disability and prostration of the nervous system which continued and superinduced and brought on epilepsy and caused his confinement a great portion of the time and was the cause of his discharge. That he is still insane and subject to spasms.” This declaration was witnessed and signatured by William May Sr. (very shaky and barely readable) Joseph H. (Harrison) May and Robert W. Gore, Guardian. Robert W. Gore is possibly Joseph Harrison’s father-in-law.
1411D James Harrison May (b. 1853 d. 1885) Married Rachael (Donham) May [sister of Nancy (Donham) May (b. 1854 d. 1943). The wife of William (Uncle Billy) Todd May]. Rachael (Donham) May married 3 May 1887 (2nd), James Stites, a civil war vet from Rockport, Indiana. He died there in 1924. James Harrison and Rachael (Donham) May had:
1411D1 Ella May (b. 1871 d. 1925) Married Philip Atkinson. They had one child.
1411D11 Andrew Morrison Atkinson (b. ? d. ?). Married Lucy ( ). They had one child.
1411D111 Andrew M. Atkinson Jr. (b. 1947)
1411D2 Harry May (b. 1873 d. 1944). Lived in Nashville, Tennessee 40 years. Retired to Rockport, Indiana. Remained single.
1411D3 Carrie May (b. 1878 d. 1920). Married Charles Olseb of Rockport, Indiana, died in Rockport.
1411D31 Louise Olseb (b. ? d. c.1930). Married Walter Brown of Rockport. Moved to Brunswick Ga. Brown had two daughters.
1411D4 John May (b. 1884 d. 1904). Killed by a train in El Paso, Texas. Had not married.
There is a grave marker published in The Volume II Cemetery Inscriptions of Spencer County Ind. in the Sunset Hill Cemetery bearing the inscription:
“STITES, RACHAEL 1853 – 1943
May, J Harry 1873 – 1944″
This is most likely the Rachael (Donham) (May) Stites that married 1411D James Harrison May (b. 1853 d. 1885)
No children have been determined to be parented by the union of Rachael (Donham) May married 3 May 1887 and James Stites.
